A helicopter flying to Kedarnath Dham had to make an emergency landing on a road near Badasu in Rudraprayag district after developing a technical fault shortly after takeoff. The incident occurred on Saturday and involved a helicopter operated by Crystal Aviation Company.
The helicopter had taken off from Badasu helipad carrying five passengers, a pilot and a co-pilot, when the malfunction forced the pilot to land on the nearest safe stretch of road. The prompt decision helped avoid a major accident. While all passengers are safe, the co-pilot sustained minor injuries.
Local administration and police teams reached the site quickly, and the passengers were taken to safety. The area is part of the high-traffic Chardham Yatra route, and incidents involving helicopters, though rare, raise concerns about safety and oversight during peak pilgrimage season.
This is yet another reminder of the challenging terrain and volatile flying conditions in Uttarakhand’s hilly regions, where vigilance and swift action by pilots remain critical to ensuring passenger safety.
